As much as I love most period dramas — and I truly do, I can’t ever recall someone saying to me, “Jenn, let’s watch this movie where the bodices are plentiful, the men are true gentlemen in dapper suits and everyone speaks in a British accent,” and I replied, “Oh, honey, this laundry’s not going to wash itself.” — this adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s “North & South” is my favorite. “I knew I was not good enough for her. Yet I think I love her more then ever.” I watch it and cry softly and juggle my ovaries and silently curse John Thorton for giving me unreal expectations. Then I stand on a tower of tampons and claim my living room in the name of all Vaginakind.
